You can sanitize your cleaning sponges by zapping them in the microwave, but make sure you get them wet first.
Just yesterday, my realtor and I had an inspector at my condo prior to putting it on the market (anybdody want a 2BR/2BA in Humboldt Partk) just so we know what might need fixing before the buyer's inspector comes through - peace of mind! Anyway, the inspector tested the microwave by putting a wet sponge in it. We then had a conversation about how we all do nuke our sponges regularly to clean them. My realtor then sent me this same article early this morning! Kinda funny that you found it too. It never would have crossed my mind to put them in dry....
