The hopeful drift toward ala carte cable
I want the broadcast channels, ESPN, Comedy Channel, BBC America, a couple HBOs for movies, and maybe a few others I'm not thinking of right now It's crazy that I can get pretty much any specific content I want via the net if I'm willing to look around, but I'm forced to buy a bloated cable package just to get a few channels I really want.
It's like having to buy one of those oatmeal variety packs with 5 different flavors and only 2 apples & cinnamon packs, because they don't sell boxes with just apples & cinnamon packs.
I've linked this topic of cable bundling vs ala carte before. Maybe I'd be paying the same amount of money for fewer channels, because pricing would change; I don't know. Maybe I'll just use that “favorite channels” feature and pretend like the fitness channel and Lifetime network aren't there.
Hey, we could work out a deal on oatmeal variety packs. Apples and Cinnamon is now my least favorite flavor.
You like the maple & brown sugar? Let's trade? You need my Oxygen Channel too? You can have it.
LOL. Actually my favorite is Cinnamon & Spice.... and I'm also buying organic these days. but the organic companies make Apple Cinnamon packets, too.
I actualy don't even have cable anymore, except for local channels so I can get decent reception. I am just watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and occasionally a movie on DVD, from Netflix. Last night we watched Dr. Strangelove.
I miss TLC the most. What Not to Wear... Trading Spaces... sigh. You can have my CSPAN for TLC....
I'd make that trade. The key to watching TLC shows is just turn on the last 4 minutes. You get the dramatic before/after and that's the only reason you watched the whole show anyway.
We're also grossly overpaying for groceries...I mean "buying organic"...too. I need to keep an eye out for the apple oatmeal only making brands.
Definitely wrong about apples and cinnamon on two counts. (1) I just finally finished off a box of Quaker apples-and-cinnamon only, which took me forever because I don't really like it that much. And (2) the real answer is peaches and cream.
I can't stand oatmeal- of any flavor. Hot cereal in general really. I think it's the mouthfeel....
Mmmm.... oatmeal. I eat it every morning at work. With raisins and a few almonds to make it a complete protein.
Jason, you should just buy a big can of Quaker oats and make it with apple cider instead of water. Or buy some bulk organic stuff. Add cinnamon if you want. It's yummy and healthier! Plus, Charlie could have some.
To be honest, I really don't eat much oatmeal at all. I have Cheerios every morning. I only thought of oatmeal, because we were eating everything left in the pantry before we moved, and oatmeal was there. We hadn't gone shopping in a long time because we don't want to move a bunch of food, so I had no Cheerios.
Your ideas are great, though. Next time I brew a bowl of oatmeal, I'll try em out.
I would love to see a la carte cable channels become reality, but I was disheartened to see a headline on the Web yesterday implying Congress would never go for it. Didn't read the article since the headline was discouraging enough. Do let your elected representatives know how you feel about this issue, please.
