Steve Stone's letter of resignation
I didn't hear the news until last night. For me, this is on the level of losing the top three players on the team. Steve Stone is easily the best color analyst in baseball and I'm really going to miss him. I wouldn't know half of what I do about baseball fundamentals if it weren't for Stoney.
Stacy and I have watch countless hours of summer baseball broadcasts together. Without Stone, we'll be missing the best part of the program.
Even as a Sox fan, I'll miss the Stoner. A very sad day in Cubdom. I can only hope Ronnie and Pat will assume a daring, dual role as TV and radio announcers.
I'd like to see Stone get a national deal. He's so much better than Tim McCarver and the insufferably pompous Joe Morgan.
It's not going to happen due to the fractured relationship, but Mark Grace would be a good replacement. Huge PR points if the Cubs brought Gracie back.
I agree, Jason. This year witnessed the rebirth of my love for baseball, and I think Stone and Carey's broadcasts had a lot to do with it. Though I watched very few non-Cubs games, I was shocked by the poor quality of the other broadcasters, most notably those of the White Sox during the cross-town series. They were just boring!
I really try to watch the White Sox a bit every summer, but I can't get past Hawk and DJ -- the Sox TV broadcast team. They are beyond boring. They make TV bowling broadcasts look like Final Four basketball.
The White Sox radio team, on the other hand, is really good. Rooney and Farmer are way better quality than Pat and Ron.
