1984, it was a very good year
I was 10 years old in 1984. I think of that year as the beginning of my modern memory. I became aware of sports, news, and pop culture.

  • (20) The summer Olympics - Holy crap, no Russians! A nation becomes preoccupied with gold medals.
  • (72) Reagan trouncing Mondale - I still remember lonely blue Minnesota all alone on the nightly news electoral map
  • (79) Intellivision - the real genesis of my gaming addiction
  • (59) Watching Karate Kid and A Nightmare on Elm Street at a drive-in double feature with my parents and little sister (asleep, of course).
  • (61) The Natural - My favorite baseball movie.
  • (39) “Somebody's Watching Me” - When you're 10, novelty songs seem really, really cool.
  • (11) Hulk Hogan beats the Iron Sheik - I haven't watched pro wrestling since 1987, but you have to think a beefy, blonde American guy taking the world title from an Arab would fit in pretty well today.

That's just the start of it. 1984. Definitely a good year.
