5 songs I wish I could hear again for the first time
If I had to pick 5 without thinking too hard about it, I'd say:
"Head Over Heels" - Go Gos
"September Gurls" - Big Star
"I'll Be You" - Replacements
"Ever Fallen In Love" - Buzzcocks
"Smokin' In the Boys Room" - Motley Crue
I know, I know. Motley Crue. But I actually remember the first time I heard that song - on the playground at Willard School in Evanston, playing hardball on a perfect summer day with some friends, not a care in the world . . . somehow, that song reminds me of pure innocence. It would be nice to feel that again.
"Head Over Heels" - Good one. In college, we did a lip-synch/dance act to that song for a charity fundraiser show. I hope no tape recording of that performance exists today.
I picked songs that i can recall changing the music i listened to. This is pretty random - i could list about 200 songs that i would love to re-hear for the first time:
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Baba O'Riley - The Who
Untrustable - Built to Spill
Rock the Bells - LL Cool J
No Woman, No Cry - Bob Marley and one more...
Search and Destroy - The Stooges
I considered both "Untrustable" and "Baba O'Riley" for my 5. "Sweet Child O' Mine" also just missed but was too close to the time that I heard "Black Dog".
I tried to pick 5 songs from different times of listening to music that made me turn and ask, "Who sings this?" (Save "Beat It" but Thriller was the first album I ever bought.)
