Lollapalooza cancels entire schedule of 2004 dates
I don't know why this surprised me. I had zero desire to go.

Exactly.
had i known the lineup priorly- i may have wanted to go. but then again, i am maybe too old for an all day rock concert...?
That's the thing. I liked the lineup, but 2 days long, crappy sound at the Tweeter Center, far away seats, The String Cheese Incident, and $7 beer all suck. Aside from the bill, nothing is appealing about that.
At 31, I'm happy with my frequent Schuba's, Empty Bottle and Hideout trips where I can see bands for ten or so bucks ... I can no longer handle all-day capitalism-at-it's-lowest megaconcerts in the hot hot sun. And as Chicagoans, we're *luckier than hell* to have Hideout's Block Party and Folk and Roots Fest (both family-friendly fests that aren't overrun with drunks), and this year's July 4th lineup looks pretty good too. And all are very cheap/free!
Yeah, the lineup was good - but the desire to go is still in my 17 year old self. I wanted to go to the Lollapalooza with the Violent Femmes, Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Nine Inch Nails. But, no, I had to attend a get-together for Northwestern college freshman from Colorado (which sucked, by the way).
So, I went to a bunch of shows at Red Rocks that summer instead and saw the Violent Femmes about 5 times in college to make up for missing the Palooza.
Bob, you need to take me to the Hideout sometime. I'm ashamed to admit I've never been.
