  • Prior threw off a mound yesterday. He's making slow progress, but I don't think we'll see Mark Prior in Superman form until after the All-Star break. If Sergio Mitre can pitch anything close to his performance last saturday (7.2 IP, 2ER, 3K), the staff will stay afloat.
  • Mark Grudzielanek went on the 15-day DL with a partial tear in his Achilles tendon. Todd Walker, a career everyday player at 2B, filled in yesterday with a 3-5, 3RBI day. Defensively, Walker is a downgrade, but he's a left handed, proven hitter and the lineup loses little except another good bat off the bench.
  • The Cubs sent Andy Pratt to AAA-Iowa and recalled Francis Beltran, the Iowa closer. Beltran is a big kid (6-6) who throws hard. Pratt couldn't find the plate (1 strike in his last 18 pitches, 7 walks in 1.2 innings) and needs time to clear his head in AAA. Beltran threw a scoreless inning yesterday with 1K in the 8-3 win over the Pirates.
  • Zambrano pitches today to decide the series with Pittsburgh. Cubs are 4-4 and host the Reds for 4 starting tomorrow. I'm going to Wrigley early tomorrow morning to see if any day of game tickets are released for the 2:20 game.

I hope there are some day-of-game tix left for tomorrow. May have to take the afternoon off.

Now if the Cubs could get some consistent offense we would be in business. Todd Walker and Sergio Mitre have been a great addition.

By the way, your list of links relating to similar sources is excellent for this post. :)

Well, if Mark Grudzielanek can recooperate from a torn Achille's, then surely I can figure out and cure what is wrong with my knee in as much time.
