Three upcoming acts I'd like to see listed on one page at Pitchfork last week.
- Magnetic Fields - June 25-27 - Old Town School of Folk Music. Hopefully these tickets will not sell out as quickly as the recent Neko Case shows there. Surprisingly, Old Town has the most unhelpful phone ticket guy in the city. Folk musicians should be kind and loving.
- Destroyer - May 4 - Empty Bottle. Destroyer is Dan Bejar's (The New Pornographers) project. I've heard a few tracks off his last keyboard release Your Blues. Fairly bizarre stuff and that might make this worth seeing.
- Deerhoof - April 28 - Empty Bottle. Some of the tracks on Milk Man bug the shit out of me and I'm ready to toss them in the recycle bin. Others are brilliant. I have no idea what Deerhoof would be like live.
Other shows listed on Early Warnings:
- Beulah - June 11-12 - Empty Bottle. I'd definitely see these guys again. Their last show at Abbey Pub was brilliant. And Miles Kurosky seems like a nice guy in that John Cusack way. I have no evidence for this.
- Neko Case and The Sadies - March 29-31 - Schuba's. This was supposedly sold out and I missed her series of shows at Old Town. I checked the Schuba's site and I was able to get two tix for next monday. After completing the order, the show said 'Sold Out'. Go me, I guess.
- Franz Ferdinand - March 26 Empty Bottle - June 12 Metro. I will bring 2 hipster bingo cards for this one.
- Ruben Studdard - April 9 - Auditorium Theatre. All. Over. It.
Don't forget Death Cab for Cutie with Pedro the Lion around the 15th of April! Sigh, tickets are $20 tho, and I'm unemployed so I don't think I can go. Boo hoo.
I don't know if I'll have recovered from Ruben by then. Isn't that show sold out anyway?
Figures it would be. Are they famous now or something? I hate how I never know how big a fan base the musicians I listen to have. Whenever they role into town, it means I'm at a complete loss as to how quickly I have to decide whether to get tickets or not to a show.
On a side now, Polyphonic Spree seems to be having some major success. I heard one of their songs on a commercial for that Eternal Sunlight movie.
I'm flying to Toronto next month just to see Neko Case & the Sadies with Carolyn Mark opening. I am so excited...
The Chicago Reader had all 3 Neko Case shows listed as sold out. I checked Schuba's site and it said "Buy Now". I filled it out asap and when the main page reloaded it said "Sold Out." I guess that means I got the last 2 tickets.
I'm really looking forward to the show.
let me know if you are going to franz ferdinand @ metro. i am out of town 2morrow but would like to check them out...
Tomorrow's show is sold out. Tix go on sale saturday for the show in June. I can pick up a couple (1 or 2?) if ya like. email me and let me know.
oh shit, i just realized that's John's b-day! lemme check w/him...
def count me in for magnetic fields tho. i bet tommy and britany will want to go too...
