The new Chicago Card Plus is everything the disposable CTA transit cards should have been in the first place.
- Reloads its balance from a credit card just like the I-Pass. Whenever you go under $10, it adds the preset amount to the balance.
- If you lose the card, the money you put on it is protected. The card will not expire.
- No need to take it out of your wallet to use. The scanner can pick up the card by moving your wallet near the sensor.
- Resume the 10% bonus plan for every $10 of balance added.
The CTA is waiving the $5 cost through March 31.
My only complaint is that I won't be able to use it more. I have to drive to work.
Oh My God. It is a beautiful, marvelous thing.
Two friends of mine just got back from a vacation to Hong Kong and have been raving about their subway system. Apparently the passes are so strong that the machine can detect you have one on you -- even if it's buried in your purse. Hope the CTA is planning something like this!
