You have stuff that you're ready to leave on the curb for someone else to pick over? Figuratively speaking anyway; Chicago has ordinances about when and where you can get rid of the big stuff. Want free junk that someone else doesn't need? Take a look at The Chicago Freecycle Network.

The goal of the Chicago Freecycle Network is to reduce waste by connecting individuals who are throwing away goods with others who are seeking them. Whether you're looking to discard or acquire an item, Chicago Freecycle is the place to do it. Furniture, clothing, appliances, computers, and all the little things in between. The only rule is that all items must be FREE.
I signed up for the message board. The list of items offered is pretty much what you'd expect: old typewriters, books, children's clothes, elliptical machines. Great idea, but I don't need any more stuff at this time. My mom is already trying to unload my grandma's Christmas ornaments and wine glasses on us. Maybe I'll tell her to sign up for the CFN.

The Worldwide Freecycle Network has a full listing of Freecycling communities as well as information for starting your own network.

And keep in mind that everyone else's stuff is shit and your shit is stuff.
