Occasionally a problem arises that doesn't have an active solution. I can change how I look at the problem, do nothing and watch, or walk away.
I know a car wreck is about to happen, and I am powerless to stop it. What am I left with?
Should I offer answers that make me feel better or answers that make you feel better?
When I can't make everything right, should I try to make the situation comfortable?
When I can't do everything, I do nothing.
Answers that make others feel better make me feel better. It's a good choice to be selfless sometimes...almost ignoring the actual 'car crash' and focusing on how you can make others be more comfortable. Maybe that's my defense mechanism that allows me to process events later, but it also helps me find some meaning and postiveness when the situation is devoid of both.
"almost ignoring the actual 'car crash' and focusing on how you can make others be more comfortable"
Thanks for that thought, I hadn't thought of that perspective before.
