In a dazzlingly deft move of simultaneous spin and economy, the Pentagon
announced today that the TIA (Total Information Awareness) Program would now be known as the TIA (Terrorism Information Awareness) Program. Changing that one word wraps me in a large fuzzy blanket. Instead of the Pentagon collecting information on citizens and storing it in some general purpose data chasm, they will be storing it in the data chasm labeled for terrorists. You have to applaud their thriftiness in choosing a new word that doesn't require a change in letterhead. That is your government at work in lean times.
